Counselling (In person and Online)
My primary role is to allow you space to talk and to assist you in figuring out what it is that might help you. We cannot avoid the difficulties life puts in front of us but we can build our own resilience and self-confidence to better face those tough times. For me counselling is a collaborative process but firmly rooted in your needs and at your direction. I truly believe that every individual holds the solution to their own puzzle and I will try to help you find or create these solutions. My approach to counselling is an integrated one with a firm foundation in the humanistic approach. We have therapy rooms available in Newmarket, Cambridge and Histon.
Ecotherapy
Ecotherapy involves bringing the environment into the therapeutic process. This can take a variety of ways depending on the needs and wants of each individual. We might get outside for a walk in the woods, observing the natural world and seeking a greater understanding of our place and our issues through that lens. We might seek to understand a particular plant or animal or natural process. We learn to observe the seasons and the ever changing nature of our environment and the powerful lessons that we can learn through this. Sessions can be arranged in a number of locations around, Cambridge, Newmarket and Ely.
Walk & Talk
Takes our counselling work outside. Instead of sitting down facing each other we will find somewhere where we can walk alongside each other. Walk and talk adds a dimension of physical benefit to the counselling process. In addition for many of us it easier to process emotionally if we can move and be free and break away from the confines of an indoor space. It allows a degree of connectedness to our environment and community by venturing out in a safe way whilst still enabling counselling to be delivered. Walk & talk offers great flexibility in that it can be done almost anywhere around Cambridge, Newmarket, Ely or further afield.
Horticulture Therapy
We use gardening and gardening activity to improve wellbeing both physical and emotional. This is a more active approach with client and counsellor getting down to work and getting their hands dirty. As we engage in each garden task we create a safe space to talk or not as the client wishes. The benefits of gardening have long been noted and have really come into their own in the 20th century, playing a role in helping soldiers returning from world war one to recover from shell shock (PTSD). Lowering blood pressure, reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, burn calories and engage in emotionally therapeutic work at the same time. Horticulture therapy is particularly beneficial to those who struggle in more contained environments and who find the idea of therapy awkward or frightening. Horticulture therapy is currently available in Chippenham on our allotment site or in Cambridge.
Groupwork
Group therapy offers a very different dynamic to one-to-one and therefor has different advantages and disadvantages. Ina group there is more space for challenge, we grow as a community and we learn from each other. Groupwork can be difficult for some individuals especially in starting their therapeutic journey and if they lack the confidence to be open in front of others. Groups can offer a more cost effective way of engaging with the therapeutic process or of learning about mental health and wellbeing.
